Obesity has become a worldwide epidemic affecting both developing and developed countries. Obesity impacts every organ system in the body, including the cerebrovascular, cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, and endocrine systems with serious health consequences. Moreover, from a reproductive health standpoint, the consequences include reduced menstrual function, fertility, success rates utilizing assisted reproductive technology (ART), and lower live birth rates. To manage overweight and obesity, recommendations on diet, lifestyle intervention, and bariatric surgery require a complex, individualized approach. Significant barriers, however, remain in addressing obesity including communication skills and conscious and unconscious bias, which impacts essential health care. In this Special Edition, “Obesity and infertility and pregnancy outcomes,” we invite original research and editorials regarding the mechanisms, impact, management, and medical care-related bias related to obesity and reproductive health care issues.
