The special edition on “Recent Advances in Pulmonary Rehabilitation” is an initiative by the Pulmonary Research and Respiratory Medicine – Open Journal to highlight the present and future challenges in Pulmonary Rehabilitation.
Pulmonary rehabilitation is now an essential part of therapeutic strategy in a wide range of respiratory diseases. Although we realize the beneficial effects of pulmonary rehabilitation in daily practice, the evidence for pulmonary rehabilitation is still really scanty except for pulmonary rehabilitation for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Since the effect of rehabilitation is difficult to evidence, pulmonary rehabilitation should be recognized as a narrative-based medicine rather than an evidence-based medicine. In this special edition, we plan to share not only the scientifically established knowledge but also the narrative experiences in pulmonary rehabilitation for diverse respiratory diseases. We confirm that the edition will help right away your tomorrow’s respiratory practice.
