For prevention and treatment purposes, the study of why neuropsychiatric and neuropsychological disorders, deficits, and dysfunction occur, as well as their onset and development, i.e. the reasons behind the way many factors come together to cause a neurological problem, is crucial. In fact, a great amount of etiological and epidemiological studies have been published in the neurological field in the last 25 years. The purpose of this special issue is to publish high-quality research papers as well as review articles addressing recent advances in risk and protective factors for neuropsychiatric disorders and neuropsychological problems. Research studies linking traditional psychiatric symptoms or disorders to brain structures and genetic abnormalities are particularly welcome. Original, high-quality contributions that are not yet published or that are not currently under review by other journals or peer-reviewed conferences are sought.
